The purpose of this problem based learning experience will be for students to understand the importance of each body system individually and as a whole towards the maintenance of homeostasis within the human body. We will first begin this learning experience by placing students in the role of a Center for Disease Control employee. The students will then be given a task card with disease symptoms and asked to research and discover what disease the symptoms are coming from and specifically what main body system(s) it usually attacks. We will also be taking an extended learning opportunity to the Center for Disease Control museum and the Bodies Exhibit in Atlanta, Georgia to meet with scientists and other employees whose job is to track diseases in order to prevent them and promote health overall.
